Summer is just around the corner and we are back with a deep house delight! Our latest VIBE.QUEST leader comes from Germany and is making a name for himself on Soundcloud as ‘Mi Ka‘. He has self-released an album, a number of singles, and also had a few popular remixes of classics like “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton. Mi Ka delivers us a cheery mix featuring deep house heavy hitters from across Europe, while also giving some time to show off his own productions along the way. Please enjoy Mi Ka’s mix and read more about this talented self-starter!

Greetings Mi Ka! Surprise surprise, you are a German producer of house music! Where are you based and how did you get your start with making this type of music?

Hi! I’m located in “Göppingen”, a little village near Stuttgart in southern Germany. I’ve been producing music with my computer for about four years now. Two years ago I heard a deep house song in a club and I loved it, so I decided to make something in that style. Finally it turned out very well and so I started making this music.

You have great English and operate your music channels in our language too; is that normal for a German musician you think?

I think so because the internet-fanbase is spread all across different countries but everyone understands English. So I try to keep my page as international as possible.

You have a lot of instrumental riffs in your music. As a producer are you doing any recording or do you have to work with samples?

I´m lucky that I have recording equipment. I can record my trumpet or a friend´s freestyle with his guitar (for example, in my track Denkpause). Although, I´m still digging for different samples through the whole internet. I love to muck around with them, play with the pitch, cut them and when it sounds good, why not use them? I think both ways are important for me to build up something unique.

We seem to share a love for inspirational spoken word samples (speeches). Do you build songs around these recordings or do you have success finding ones to fit your music?

Most times I hear a quote or a dialog from a film or a speech which creates a certain feeling inside me. Then I take a look at my projects, try to figure out which creates a similar mood, and finally I put them together.

What is the toughest part about putting together the mixtapes you often release on SoundCloud?

In fact it is the final mixing and the mastering. I do it all myself and it isn’t easy because I don’t have a professional studio with perfect room acoustics. That´s why I do a lot of work on headphones.

What was your goal or vision for this Relaux VIBE.QUEST mix you are sharing with us ?

I hope everyone who listens to this mix can cut out from their daily life for a moment, dive into a dream and just get happy while listening to it!

Lastly, any future dreams for your music in the future?

First thank you RELAUX for making this possible. Over the past years music became more than just a hobby and of course I wish that as many as possible people out there hear my music because when they´re happy while listening to my music, I’m happy too. Also it would be great if I could play my music in other countries around the world!
